The pressure plate is mounted in a stamped steel casing 3, attached with six bolts to the engine flywheel 1. The driven disk 2 is mounted on the splines of the primary shaft of the gearbox and is clamped by a diaphragm spring 4 between the flywheel and the pressure plate.

Bearing 2 (Fig. 6.2) for releasing the clutch is structurally combined with the working cylinder 3 of the clutch release drive, attached with three bolts 4 to the clutch housing 1.

…and the clutch pedal, the bracket of which is attached with nuts to the front shield of the body. The pedal is returned to its original position by a spring. The rod of the master cylinder of the clutch release drive is connected to the pedal by a fork. The master cylinder is connected by a hose to a reservoir installed on the master brake cylinder (the reservoir is common for both master cylinders). Brake fluid is used in the hydraulic clutch release drive. Adjustment of the clutch release drive is not provided, it is only possible to check the travel of the clutch pedal in order to determine the technical condition of the clutch.
Note. In order for the clutch to serve long and reliably, do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal all the time. This bad habit is often acquired during driving lessons in driving schools out of fear of not having time to disengage the clutch when the car stops. In addition to the rapid fatigue of the foot, which is always above the pedal, the clutch is at least slightly squeezed, while the driven disk slips and wears out. In addition, despite the fact that the release bearing is designed to operate in the constant rotation mode, it is under increased load when the pedal is pressed even slightly and its service life is reduced. For the same reason, we do not recommend keeping the clutch in the disengaged state for a long time (for example, in traffic jams). If you do not have to move off immediately, it is better to engage the neutral position of the gearbox and release the pedal.
Note: Clutch slippage can be easily detected using a tachometer. If, while driving, when you press the accelerator pedal sharply, the revs rise sharply, and then drop slightly and the car begins to accelerate, the clutch requires repair.
