Checking and replacing the fuel gauge sensor

            0

The fuel gauge sensor is mounted on the fuel module.

You will need an autotester to test the sensor.

1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.

2. Remove the fuel module (see «Fuel pump replacement»).

3. Pry with a screwdriver..

4.... and disconnect the block from the fuel level sensor terminal..

5.... and a block from the cover terminal.

6. Squeeze the latches and remove the fuel level sensor.

7. To test the fuel gauge sensor, connect a tester in ohmmeter mode to the sensor leads.

8. Measure the resistance of the sensor in the lower position of the float lever. The resistance should be 200-206 ohms.

9. Raise the lever with the float to its extreme position - the resistance should decrease to 7.7-9.3 ohms. If the resistance of the sensor differs from the given values, then the sensor is defective and must be replaced.

10. Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
