1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT engine front crankshaft oil seal Replace as follows.

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Remove the timing belt (refer to Inspection and replacement of the timing belt for the 1.6L duratec ti-vct engine).

3. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.

4. Using a screwdriver, remove the oil seal from the oil pump housing.

5. Lubricate the working lip of the new oil seal with engine oil, install the oil seal in the oil pump housing, orienting it with the working edge inside the engine, and press it in until it stops with a mandrel. As a mandrel, you can use a suitable size head from the tool kit or an old oil seal.

6. Install all removed parts and components of the gas distribution mechanism in the reverse order of removal.

7. Adjust the tension of the timing belt (refer to Inspection and replacement of the timing belt for the 1.6L duratec ti-vct engine).

Replace the 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT rear crankshaft oil seal as follows.

1. Remove the gearbox (see Removing and installing transmission).

2. Remove the clutch (see Clutch removal and installation).

3. Remove the flywheel (see Removal, troubleshooting and installation of the flywheel).

4. Inspect the gland. If the tightness of the stuffing box is broken, an oil leak will be visible in its lower part.

5. Turn out six bolts of fastening of the holder of an epiploon to the block of cylinders …

6.... and remove the holder assembly with the stuffing box.

NOTE: The crankshaft rear oil seal and holder gasket are glued to the holder, so if the oil seal is leaking, replace the entire assembly.

Pay attention to the markings on the gland holder. Purchase a gland assembly with the same marking.

7. Lubricate the working lip of the new oil seal with engine oil, install the oil seal holder on the cylinder block, orienting the oil seal with the working lip inside the engine, and carefully fill the working lip onto the crankshaft journal.

8. Tighten the stuffing box holder bolts evenly and crosswise to the torque given in Appendix 1.

To replace the front crankshaft oil seal on 2.0 and 2.3L Duratec-HE engines, follow these steps.

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Remove the timing cover (refer to Duratec-he 2.0L and 2.3L Timing Chain Replacement).

NOTE: Shown with removed engine for clarity.

3. Using a mandrel of suitable diameter, press the old oil seal out of the timing cover.

4. Lubricate the working lip of the new oil seal with engine oil, install the oil seal in the cover, orienting its working edge inside the engine, and press it in until it stops with a mandrel. As a mandrel, you can use a head from a tool kit of a suitable size or an old oil seal.

Rear oil seal of the crankshaft of Duratec-HE engines of 2.0 and 2.3 liters, replace as follows.

4. Inspect the gland. If the tightness of the stuffing box is broken, an oil leak will be visible in its lower part.

5. Turn out six bolts of fastening of the holder of an epiploon to the block of cylinders.

6. Gently pry off the gland holder with a screwdriver..

7.... and remove the holder assembly with the stuffing box.

8. Lubricate the working lip of the new oil seal with engine oil, install the oil seal holder on the cylinder block, orienting the oil seal with the working lip inside the engine, and carefully fill the working lip onto the crankshaft journal.
