Bosch starters are installed on Ford Mondeo cars.

The starter is a DC electric motor with permanent magnet excitation, with a planetary gear and an electromagnetic two-winding traction relay.

Lids 1 (pic. 10.7), 10 and starter housing 16 are tightened with two studs. The rotor 17 of the starter rotates in two ceramic-metal inserts installed in the cover 10 and the support of the planetary gear 18. Four permanent magnets are fixed in the stator housing.

The rotation from the armature shaft is transmitted to the drive shaft through a planetary gearbox, which consists of a ring gear, three satellites, a planet carrier and an internal gear. Satellites rotate on needle bearings.

When the starter is turned on, the voltage from the battery through the switch (lock) ignition is supplied to both windings of the starter traction relay (pulling and holding). Under the action of the magnetic field of the windings, the armature 4 of the relay is drawn in and lever 3 engages the gear in engagement with the engine flywheel. After closing the contact bolts of the plate, the retracting winding is turned off and the armature 4 of the relay is held in the retracted state only by the holding winding.

When you turn the key in the switch (castle) ignition to position "II", the holding winding is de-energized and the armature under the action of the spring 6 returns to its original position, disengaging the clutch gear 19 with the lever 3 from the flywheel.

USEFUL ADVICE: In order to avoid many starter malfunctions, follow a number of simple rules during its operation: - when starting the engine, turn on the starter for no more than 10-15 seconds and again - after 20-30 seconds. Continuous operation of the starter for a long time may cause overheating. If after three attempts the engine does not start, then check and eliminate malfunctions in the engine power supply system or in the ignition system;

USEFUL ADVICE: - after starting the engine, immediately turn off the starter, as long-term rotation of the drive gear by the flywheel can damage the starter freewheel;

USEFUL ADVICE: - do not move the car using the starter, as this causes significant overload and damage to it.
