Checking the ignition system

            0

WARNING: Your vehicle has a smart ignition system (IPSZ) high energy. A voltage of approximately 40,000 V is applied to the high-voltage wires. Although it is not life-threatening at a low current, a possible electric shock when checking the ignition system can lead to serious consequences.

Therefore, if you take on a high-voltage wire with the ignition on, use a thick rubber glove or, in extreme cases, pliers with insulated handles.

GOOD ADVICE: Before checking the ignition system, place the shift lever in neutral and leave the parking brake on.

1. With the ignition off on a 1.6L engine (VCT) check the integrity and fit of the high-voltage wires in the sockets of the ignition coil..

2.... and on engines with a volume of 2.0; 2.3 and 2.5 liters - landing of ignition coils on candles.

3. Check the ignition coil (see Ignition Coil Check).

4. If the ignition coil low voltage circuit is OK, check for spark at the spark plugs. On a 1.6L engine (VCT) remove the high voltage wire from any spark plug..

5.... and on engines with a volume of 2.0; 2.3 and 2.5 liters, remove the ignition coil. Insert a spare spark plug into the tip of the wire or into the tip of the ignition coil and press it with a metal part to the "mass" of the car (e.g. to the suspension support of the power unit). Have an assistant turn the engine crankshaft with the starter.

WARNINGS: Reliable contact of the spark plug body with the "ground" is mandatory, since if an additional spark gap appears that is larger than the gap between the spark plug electrodes, the engine control unit or the ignition coil high-voltage circuit may be damaged.

Carry out the indicated check for no more than five seconds so as not to damage the exhaust gas converter if gasoline that has not been burned in the engine cylinders gets into it.

6. If there is no spark, on engines of 2.0; 2.3 and 2.5L replace ignition coil (see Removing and installing ignition coils for duratec-he and duratec-v15 engines), and on a 1.6 liter engine (VCT) replace the high voltage wires with new ones. You can first try to install not new, but proven, from a "working" machine.

7. If there is no spark after replacing the wires, replace the ignition coil (see Removal and installation of the ignition coil of the 1.6 l duratec ti-vct engine). If there is spark but the engine does not start, replace the spark plugs with new ones. You can also try to install non-new, but verified, from a "working" machine beforehand.

8. If after that the engine does not start, check the engine management system (see Fuel Injection System Malfunctions).
