In Mondeo engines, an automatic belt tensioner keeps the poly V-belts in a tensioned state. So you don"t have to worry about belt tension any more. However, the pressure rollers should be inspected from time to time. If you don"t notice anything unusual in the "resting state", then start the engine and pay attention to the movement of the pressure roller: if you turn on a "major consumer", such as the air conditioner, rear window heating, etc., then a serviceable roller "swings" slightly – however, even when the engine is given a strong "gas push". Severe wear of the belts (unevenly deep grooves) constantly encourages the pressure roller to oscillate. To eliminate these deficiencies, first replace the drive belt. Make sure that the new belt has the same specification as the old one.
Below this work is described using the example of the Duratec-HE engine.
