Checking the operation of the switch (Mondeo 3)

Sometimes even a faulty switch can "confuse" the electric current. In the Mondeo, however, different types of switches are "in honor". It is better to check them with a test lamp. Naturally, the needle contact at the end of the lamp must be "sharp as a needle" for this, and not too blunt. If necessary, replace faulty switches only with genuine Ford spare parts.

ORDER OF EXECUTION

Obtain the appropriate wiring diagram for your Mondeo. First, take care of the live wires. To do this, take a test lamp and pierce the wire insulation with needle contacts. Check whether voltage is applied to the switch. To do this, you usually need to turn on the ignition or lighting first. The switch is tested as follows: it is determined whether the switch "releases" its input voltage at the output (output voltage).

Combination device

The combined instrument cluster of your Mondeo is a single unit, in which no element can be replaced separately. It contains indicators and control lamps for all vehicle systems. Since, as practice has shown, lighting devices in modern interiors "live" for quite a long time, in this chapter we will not dwell on lighting devices in more detail. The Mondeo interior is offered in three different versions: Ambiente, Trend and Ghia.

The car's equipment is largely represented by the work of indicators - therefore, the indicators themselves are visually different, without any independent functioning. The information for the indication and signaling systems is provided by the output signals of the sensors - you take it into account when you want to unravel the causes of malfunctions in the systems.

The electronic speedometer, for example, receives its signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), which is located in the gearbox. Other systems that also need this signal are, for example, the engine control unit, the ABS/ESP system, the cruise control system, the on-board computer.

Caution – Always check interconnected systems for functionality

Always check interconnected systems, this will lead you to the desired goal faster. All devices and control lamps receive their impulses not through wires, but through a board with applied conductive tracks. Depending on the equipment and model, boards can be different. Therefore, when carrying out repair work and purchasing spare parts, pay attention to this.

Your Ford dealer will immediately recognize the required board by the code designation in your technical documentation or vehicle registration document. However, when troubleshooting, new boards are rarely required: most often, only the lamps are defective, or the connector is damaged due to poor contact. Therefore, of course, you cannot do without dismantling the combined instrument panel.
