It's not always easy to follow the «winding» wires

Most current consumers in the Mondeo function with double terminals. However, to the battery or to the generator, you can often find only one wire. Another ends SOMEWHERE «on the way to» on contact with the ground of the body, engine, gearbox or, in most cases, on another «tongue» connector. For amateurs «currents» have a mysterious effect - they often «run» in a strange way.

Conductive mass - metal parts

Ford engineers for Mondeo on-board electrical engineering used the following physical principle for their purposes - metals, which auto electricians call mass, conduct electricity. Based on this fact, Ford saves a lot - and quite legitimately - on long wires to consumers of voltage from the negative pole of the battery: in the Mondeo, as in all cars, this job is simply done by the body. Thus, if the consumer does not function, then the reason for this often lies not in the supply wire, but in poor contact with the ground. Ground contact, however, chooses strange detours in order to eventually reach the goal. At the same time, the onboard electrician comes into complete disarray: for example, it can lead to the fact that the direction indicators and rear lights are «tactfully» smolder. And in the future they will run for amateurs «currents» in a strange way.

System ordering - wires and terminals

Thanks to rational design, Mondeo wiring harnesses in series would be about 12 km long. The seeming motley disorder is actually well structured - the colors of the wires indicate the way. In addition, most of the outputs of the multi-pin connectors and relays are numbered. When choosing a wire color as «Ford norms» accepted requirements were taken into account.

Worthy of interest - common wire and terminal designations

Terminal 15: electric current is supplied only when the ignition is switched on from the ignition key switch, while in addition to ignition, those consumers of electricity are supplied with current, which should be supplied with current only when the vehicle is in operation. The wires leading to terminals 15 are in most cases sheathed in black, sometimes even with additional colored stripes.

Terminal 30 constantly receives current from the positive pole of the battery or alternator when the engine is running. Careless handling of tools can cause a short circuit or a shower of sparks if the negative battery cable has not been previously disconnected. These wires, which are always energized, are red-sheathed in the Mondeo and also «decorate» additional colored stripes.

Terminal 49 is responsible for supplying current to the direction indicators and to the hazard warning light system.

Terminal 53 powering the windshield wiper. Its wires have a predominantly green sheath with additional colored (e.g. yellow) stripes.

Terminal 56: with yellow-black colors provides current supply to the dipped beam headlights for yellow and white-black high beam headlights.

Terminal 58: supplies power to parking lights (front), as well as taillights and license plate lights. The main color of the wire sheath is gray, respectively, with additional colored stripes.

Terminal 31: terminal for connection with the car body (weight), through which the consumer of electricity must be connected to the mass of the vehicle. In the on-board electrical system, the corresponding ground wires are predominantly sheathed in brown.
