Fuses in passenger compartment and engine compartment

            0

In your Mondeo, numerous fuses protect the on-board electrics from surges. Their protective function is manifested at the theoretical maximum load of a single electrical circuit. Fuses interrupt the current supply as soon as, for example, a short circuit (defective consumer, damaged wire) dissipates the onboard voltage to ground in an uncoordinated manner. Thus, they prevent the occurrence of other defects (e.g. ignition of a wire) in your vehicle. Mondeo has flat-plate electrical fuses whose fusible wire - in the event of an overload - overheats. For a separate fuse, however, «fact» overload can occur even when a fully loaded electrical circuit is additionally «embellished» other consumers (HiFi systems, high power output amplifiers, or unacceptable high power lamps). In addition, commonplace car vacuum cleaners and refrigerators, which are simply powered by current from a cigarette lighter socket, can sometimes «melt» fuse. Therefore, in Mondeo, if necessary, allocate a separate electrical circuit for additional consumers - naturally, with its own fuse. To exclude all possible options, it is better to contact an auto electrician at the factory, who can tell you the desired wire size (min. 15 mm2) and a sufficient way to protect the electrical circuit.

Distributed in different electrical circuits - on-board fuses

The engine management system and most powerful units are protected separately. To ensure that your Mondeo does not run out of power when there is an electrical failure or defect, Ford engineers have distributed their on-board consumers to several electrical circuits. Non-main auxiliary consumers are combined into different groups and also «pass» respectively through the fuse. This is not the case in the electrical circuits between the starter, battery, alternator and ignition key switch: there is always full battery power. Therefore, be especially careful when handling these electrical circuits: ALWAYS disconnect the battery first! Otherwise, capital damage and ignition of wires and even a car fire will be programmed.

TECHNICAL DICTIONARY

Fuses
The Mondeo fuse box contains flat fuses (mini fuses), whose transparent «plastic bodies» fix two flat plugs connected by fusible wire, or the so-called A1 fuses. A blown fuse is recognized by a broken fusible wire (indicated by an arrow). Often the backs of the plastic filling can also be broken or melted.

Recognition by color - number of amperes

For better differentiation of the maximum load, the fuses, in addition to the inscription on them, are marked with color. Mini fuses in Mondeo correspond to:
  • Grey (2 A)
  • Violet (3 A)
  • Pink (4 A)
  • Beige (5 A)
  • Brown (7.5 A
  • Red (10 A)
  • Blue (15 A) ¢ Yellow (20 A)
  • Transparent (24 A)
  • Green (30 A)

    Compactly inserted: mini fuse.

Additionally, the so-called A1 fuses protect in Mondeo «powerful» electrical circuits. They oppose:
  • Blue (20 A)
  • Pink (30 A)
  • Green (40 A
  • Red (50 A)
  • Yellow (60 A)
  • Brown (70 A)
  • Black (80 A)

    Tolerate high currents: A1 fuses.
