Outdoor Lighting

            0

Mondeo's exterior lighting consists of main headlights, rear and brake lights, reversing lights, front and rear fog lights, and turn signal and license plate lights. Other light sources are described in the Car interior chapter.

An outdoor headlight consists of a light source, a reflector and a diffuser. Mondeo uses halogen lamps as light sources in the main and fog lamps - if desired, Mondeo can also illuminate the roads with xenon lamps. Serially «contains» its main headlight, respectively, two special-shaped plastic reflectors. In contrast to headlamps of conventional design – their light sources are connected respectively by a parabolic reflector and a profiled diffuser projects the light onto the road – free-form reflectors distribute their light over a plurality of reflective sectors with different geometric shapes.

Optional supply: xenon light instead of free-form plastic reflectors with halogen lamps.

As a result, various angles of inclination of the reflected light rays relative to the axis of reflection are generated. Or in short: light «distribute» along the road there are only reflectors with different focuses - a diffuser with ordinary functions would be completely inappropriate here. According to this «diffusers» made of polycarbonate perform functions in the Mondeo «window glass», they protect «entrails» headlights from the effects of weather conditions, road dirt and external damage.

«Finished dress» – two different lamps for high and low beam

As «high beam» the legislator prescribes the use of a special light distribution with an asymmetric cut-off line. In countries with right-hand traffic, the light maximum is concentrated on the right carriageway, otherwise «left road ditch» will be at the focal point. Low Beam Mondeo «draws» its energy from a 55 watt H7 halogen lamp, «long distance» H1 halogen lamps also illuminate with 55 watts.

It is rational to have a spare set of lamps on board

In our country, the legislator without fail prescribes that all outdoor lighting facilities function constantly. Therefore, a far-sighted driver takes a spare set of bulbs with him. Mondeo usually «are burning» 12 volt bulbs:

dipped beam – H7/55 V
high beam – H1L/55 V
Fog lights* – H11/55 V

– Bulb with spherical bulb/21 V (orange)
Direction indicators, front – Lamp with glass base/5 V
Parking lights front – Lamp with glass base/5 V
Side direction indicators – Lamp with spherical bulb /21 V
Rear direction indicators – Lamp with glass base/5 V
Rear lights – Lamp with spherical bulb /21 V
Rear fog lights – Lamp with spherical bulb /21 V
Brake/tail lights – Lamp with glass base/5 V
Additional brake signals (5) – H1/55 V
Reversing lights License plate lighting – Soffit lamp / 5 V
trunk lighting – Lamp with glass base/5 V
Interior lighting – Soffit lamp/10 V
Reading lamp – Lamp with glass base/5 V

* Mondeo with sports bumper: H3/55 V

TECHNICAL DICTIONARY

Headlight range adjustment

Every Mondeo is factory-equipped with headlight beam throw adjustment. Thus, the illumination range of the headlights strictly corresponds to the current load - oncoming traffic vehicles should never be blinded. The headlight beam throw adjustment system is powered by a voltage-controlled stepper motor. The control resistance can be changed using the operating switch located to the left of the steering wheel. It further transmits the selected voltage to the adjusting motors: depending on the installation, the spindle adjusts the position of the reflector in the headlight housing. With a basic installation, that is, designed for «loading» two persons, the knurled roller must be in position «0», the scale in the Mondeo ranges from «0 to «2».

Agreed: Depending on the load, you adjust the headlight range using the headlight beam throw adjustment.
