Outdoor lighting (Mondeo 3)

The Mondeo's exterior lighting consists of the headlamps, tail and brake lights, reversing lights, front and rear fog lights, direction indicators and number plate lights. The other light sources are described in the Interior chapter.

The outer headlight consists of a light source, a reflector and a diffuser. Mondeo uses halogen lamps as light sources in the main and fog lights – if desired, Mondeo can also illuminate the roads with xenon lamps. As standard, its main headlight "contains" two specially shaped plastic reflectors. In contrast to headlights of conventional design – their light sources are connected by a parabolic reflector, and a profiled diffuser projects light onto the road – reflectors of arbitrary shape distribute their light across a multitude of reflective sectors with different geometric shapes.

Optional supply: xenon light instead of free-form plastic reflectors with halogen lamps.

As a result, various angles of inclination of the reflected light beams relative to the reflection axis are generated. Or in short: the light is "distributed" along the road only by reflectors with different foci - a diffuser with conventional functions would be completely inappropriate here. Accordingly, polycarbonate "diffusers" perform the functions of a "window glass" in the Mondeo, they protect the "insides" of the headlights from the effects of weather conditions, road dirt and external damage.

"Ready-made dress" - two different lamps for high and low beam

As a "high beam", the legislator prescribes the use of a special light distribution with an asymmetrical light-shadow boundary. In countries with right-hand traffic, the light maximum is concentrated on the right-hand side of the road, otherwise the "left road ditch" will be at the focal point. The low beam of the Mondeo "draws" its energy from a halogen lamp H7 of 55 watts, "long distances" are illuminated by halogen lamps H1 also with 55 watts.

It is a good idea to have a spare set of lamps on board

In our country, the legislator obliges all external lighting devices to function constantly. Therefore, a far-sighted driver takes a spare set of bulbs with him. In Mondeo, 12-volt bulbs usually "burn":

Adjusting the headlight angle Each Mondeo is equipped with a headlight range adjustment system at the factory. This ensures that the headlight range strictly corresponds to the current load – oncoming traffic must not be blinded under any circumstances. The headlight range adjustment system is powered by a voltage-controlled stepper motor. The adjustment resistance can be changed using the operating switch located to the left of the steering wheel. It then transmits the selected voltage to the adjustment motors: depending on the setting, the spindle adjusts the position of the reflector in the headlight housing. With the basic setting, i.e. designed for the "load" of two people, the knurled roller should be in the "0" position; the scale in the Mondeo has a range from "0 to "2". Agreed: You adjust the range of the headlights depending on the load using the headlight range adjuster.
