Removing and installing the gearbox control lever linkage (Focus 2)

1. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see "Removing and installing the floor tunnel lining").

3. …and disconnect the cable from the gearbox control lever.

4. Similarly, disconnect the gear selection cable from the leash.

5. Turn the gear selector cable housing stop lock counterclockwise…

6. …and remove the shell stop from the gearbox control lever linkage bracket.

7. Similarly, disconnect the gear shift cable housing stop from the bracket on the linkage.

NOTE: The shift cable housing stop pin is white and the selector cable housing stop pin is black. Remember their location so you don't mix them up when reinstalling.

8. Using a thin chisel and a hammer, unscrew the four bolts securing the gearshift linkage to the base of the body and remove the gearshift linkage (the two front bolts are not visible in the photo).

NOTE: The gearshift lever linkage is secured to the body base with shear-off bolts that come off when the bolts are tightened to a certain torque. This is done to eliminate the possibility of unauthorized neutralization of the standard gearshift lever lock.


9. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Replace the linkage mounting bolts with new ones and tighten them until the heads come off.
