1. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see Removing and installing floor tunnel lining).
2. Press the shift cable end release button…
3….and disconnect the cable from the gearbox control lever.
4. Similarly, disconnect the gear selection cable from the leash.
5. Turn the gear selector cable housing stop lock counterclockwise…
6….and remove the shell stop from the gearbox control lever linkage bracket.
7. Similarly, disconnect the gear shift cable housing stop from the bracket on the linkage.
NOTE: The shift cable housing stop pin is white and the gear select cable housing stop pin is black. Remember their location so that you do not mix them up when reinstalling.
8. Using a thin chisel and a hammer, unscrew the four bolts securing the gearshift linkage to the base of the body and remove the gearshift linkage (the two front bolts are not visible in the photo).
NOTE: The gearshift lever linkage is secured to the body base with shear-off bolts that come off when the bolts are tightened to a certain torque. This is done to eliminate the possibility of unauthorized neutralization of the standard gearshift lever lock.
9. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Replace the linkage mounting bolts with new ones and tighten them until the heads come off.
To remove the backstage automatic transmission gears, do the following.
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see Removing and installing floor tunnel lining).
3. Disconnect the cable end from the gear selector lever.
4. Remove the end of the cable sheath from the holder on the selector housing.
5. Disconnect the bus connector from the connector on the instrument panel console…
6…. remove the tire from the holder on the selector body and move it to the side.
7. Squeeze the latch…
8….and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the selector.
9. Unscrew the four mounting nuts…
10….and remove the gear selector.
11. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
