1. To replace the axle shaft seal, drain the oil (liquid) from the gearbox (see Changing the oil in a manual transmission or the working fluid in an automatic transmission).
2. Remove the front wheel drive from the side of the oil seal being replaced (see Removing and installing front wheel drives).

3. Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.

4. Lubricate the working edge of the oil seal with transmission grease and press it in using a mandrel of a suitable diameter with the working edge inside the gearbox.
5. Install the front wheel drive (see Removing and installing front wheel drives).
6. Fill the gearbox with oil (liquid) (see Changing the oil in a manual transmission or the working fluid in an automatic transmission).

7. The primary shaft seal of the manual gearbox is replaced on the gearbox removed from the vehicle after removing the clutch release drive slave cylinder with the clutch release bearing (see Replacing the clutch release slave cylinder with the clutch release bearing). Remove the seal with a screwdriver (or a specially made wire hook).

8. Lubricate the working edge of the oil seal with transmission grease and press it in using a mandrel of a suitable diameter with the working edge inside the box.
