To replace the manual transmission control cables, perform the following operations.
1. Remove the gearshift lever linkage (see Removing and installing the gearbox control lever linkage).
2. Remove the mudguard and engine crankcase protection (see Removing and installing mudguard and engine crankcase protection).

3. On the iB5 gearbox, unfasten the seven fasteners of the gearshift mechanism cover…

4….and remove the lid.

5. Press the gear selector cable end release button…

6….and disconnect the cable from the gear selector lever.

7. Use a screwdriver to pry up the tip of the gear shift cable…

8….and disconnect the cable from the gear shift lever.

9. Turn the gear shift cable housing stop lock counterclockwise…

10….and remove the shell stop from the bracket on the gearbox.

11. Similarly, disconnect the gear selection cable from the bracket on the gearbox.

12. Disconnect the cables from the front…

13….and the rear brackets on the clutch housing.
14. Remove the front heat shield (see Removing and installing heat shields).

15. Disconnect the cables from the bracket on the base of the body.

NOTE: After removing the front heat shield, access is gained to a rubber-sealed hole in the floor tunnel through which the cables are passed into the passenger compartment.
16. To gain access to the cable seal mount (it is attached to the body base from inside the passenger compartment), cut the soundproofing lining of the floor tunnel and spread its edges apart.
17. Unscrew the two nuts securing the cable seal and remove the cables into the passenger compartment, alternately removing their ends through the hole in the floor tunnel.
18. Install the transmission control cables and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
19. Adjust the gearbox control drive (see Adjusting the gearbox control drive).
For automatic transmission control cable replacement gear, perform the following operations.

1. Remove the battery mounting shelf (see Removing and installing the battery mounting shelf).

2. Press the lock…

3….and disconnect the cable end from the gearbox shift lever.

4. Pry up the edge of the selector lever boot frame and remove its clips from the hole in the floor tunnel trim.

5. Carefully pry up the edge of the decorative cover of the lever handle…

6….remove the cover.

7. Slide the cover ring down…

8….press the two clamps and remove the handle from the shift lever.

9. Remove the cover from the selector lever.

10. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see Removing and installing floor tunnel lining).
11. Disconnect the cable end from the gear selector lever.
12. Remove the end of the cable sheath from the holder on the selector housing.
13. Unscrew the two nuts securing the cable seal and remove the cable into the passenger compartment, removing its tip through the hole in the floor tunnel.
14. Install the transmission control cable and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
