Removal
1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Section 303-12 for additional information.
2. Disconnect the gear shift cables from the transaxle.
- 1. Disconnect the shift cable (white) and gear selector cable (black) from the shift lever and gear selector lever.
- 2. Turn the support bushings clockwise and disconnect the cables from the bracket.

3. Move the gear shift mechanism to neutral position.

4. Remove the gear shift knob and boot.

5. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12.
6. Remove the rear footwell heater duct.

7. Remove the center console trim panel.

8. Disconnect the shift cables from the shift linkage.
- Turn the support bushings clockwise and disconnect the cables from the bracket.

9. Disconnect the gear shift cable from the gear shift lever (the gear shift linkage is shown removed for clarity).

10. Disconnect the gear selector cable from the gear selector lever (the gear selector lever mechanism is shown removed for clarity).

11. Remove the left lower channel of the heater housing.
12. Cut the mat.
13. Fold back the floor covering and sound-absorbing material (for clarity, the heater core is shown removed).

14. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.
15. Disconnect the flexible exhaust system connection from the exhaust pipe assembly with the muffler.
- Discard the nuts and gasket as they are no longer needed.

16. Disconnect the front exhaust system hanger supports from the brackets.

17. Disconnect the front muffler hanger support from the bracket.
- Support the exhaust system.

18. Remove the front exhaust heat shield.

19. Disconnect the gear shift cable and gear selector cable from the floor panel.

20. Lower the vehicle.
21. Disconnect the shift cable and gear selector cable bushing from the floor panel and pull the cables into the vehicle interior (heater core shown removed for clarity).

Installation
1. Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
2. Adjust the shift cables. Refer to Section 308-00 for additional information.
