Gearshift cables — removal and installation

Withdrawal


1. Remove the air filter. See Section 303-12 for more information.

2. Disconnect the shift cables from the transaxle.
  • 1. Disconnect the shift cable (white color) and gear selector cable (black color) from the gearshift lever and the gear selector.
  • 2. Turn the support bushings clockwise and disconnect the cables from the bracket.



3. Move the shift mechanism to neutral position.



4. Remove the handle and a cover of the gear lever.



5. Remove the floor console. See Section 501-12 for more information.


6. Remove the rear footwell heater channel.



7. Remove the center console trim panel.



8. Disconnect the shift cables from the shift linkage.
  • Turn the support bushings clockwise and disconnect the cables from the bracket.



9. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever (for clarity, the gear lever mechanism is shown removed).




10. Disconnect the gear selection cable from the gear selection lever (for clarity, the gear lever mechanism is shown removed).



11. Remove the left lower channel of a heater casing.

12. Cut the rug.

13. Bend the flooring and sound deadening material (for clarity, the heater core is shown removed).



14. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.


15. Disconnect a flexible insert of system of release from an exhaust pipe in gathering with the muffler.
  • Discard the nuts and gasket as they are no longer needed.



16. Disconnect the front outboard support of the exhaust system from the brackets.



17. Disconnect the muffler front outboard support from the bracket.
  • Support the exhaust system.



18. Remove the front heat shield of the exhaust system.




19. Disconnect the shift cable and gear selection cable from the floor panel.



20. Lower the car.

21. Disconnect the shift cable and gear select cable bushing from the floor panel and pull the cables into the vehicle interior (for clarity, the heater core is shown removed).



Installation


1. Replace the elements in reverse order.

2. Adjust shift cables. See Section 308-00 for more information.
