Disassembly
1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12.
2. Move the gear shift lever to the third gear position.
3. Disconnect the gear shift cable from the gear shift lever (the gear shift linkage is shown removed for clarity).
4. Disconnect the gear selector cable from the gear selector lever (the gear selector lever mechanism is shown removed for clarity).
5. Remove the bolts securing the upper housing of the gear shift lever mechanism (for clarity, the gear shift lever mechanism is shown removed).

NOTE: Mark the position of the locking bar.
Remove the upper shift linkage housing (shift linkage shown removed for clarity).
7. Remove the gear selector lever retaining ring.
- Discard the retaining ring as it is no longer needed.
- Remove the washer.
8. Remove the gear selector lever.
Assembly
1.
NOTE: Install a new shift lever retaining ring.
Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
