Removal and installation of the gear change drive (Transmission / Mechanical gearbox / Ford Escort 3 1980-1985)

Engage IV gear if it has not been engaged before. Remove handle 25 or 26 (pic. 3.38) from the gearshift lever 1 and remove the protective cover 24 as an assembly. Put the car on stands Disconnect the rear part of the exhaust tract. removing the rear rubber suspension ring. Detach spring 5 from linkage 2 of gear shift actuator. Loosen nut 1 (rice. 3.9) shrink disc and disconnect the rod from the intermediate drive shaft. Loosen the stabilizer mounting bolt 12 (pic. 3.38) to the gearbox, remove the rubber bushing 13 installed between the stabilizer and the gearbox. Unscrew the four bolts, remove the cup 14 of the gear lever and remove the stabilizer, moving it to the side.

Install the shift lever housing assembly and install the bolts of its fastening. Attach the stabilizer to the gearbox by installing the rubber bushing. Install the shift lever cup. Attach link 2 to the drive shaft coming out of the gearbox and spring 5 to the link. Next, adjust the gearshift drive, as described earlier in chapter «Removal and installation of a transmission». Reinstall the end pipe of the exhaust tract and lower the vehicle to the ground. Install the protective boot and shift knob.
