Catalytic converter (1.8L/2.0L) — removal and installation

Withdrawal


1. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

2. Remove the heat shield.



3. Disconnect the catalytic converter.



4. Remove the bottom support bracket.



5. Lower the car.

6. Disconnect the high pressure hose.



7. Remove the heat shield of the exhaust system.




8. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor electrical connector (HO2S).



9. Remove the HO2S.



10. Disconnect the catalytic converter. Discard the nuts.



11. Raise and secure the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

CAUTION: With the support clamp removed, the catalytic converter must be supported.


Remove the catalytic converter.
  • Remove the front support collar.
  • Discard the gaskets.



Installation


CAUTION: Failure to follow these instructions could damage the support brackets and result in damage to the catalytic converter.


1. Loosen the bolts on the rear support collar so that the mating surfaces are in contact, allowing the collar to move relative to the bracket.



2. Install the catalytic converter.
  • Use a new gasket and nuts.
  • Install but do not tighten the nuts.



3. Connect the catalytic converter to the flexible exhaust pipe, but do not tighten.


  • Use a new gasket.



4. Lower the car.

5. Tighten nuts.



6. Install a heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).



7. Connect the HO2S electrical connector.



8. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.




9. Install the high pressure hose.



10. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

11. Turn out a nut.



12. Install the front support collar.



13. Tighten the bolts.



14. Install but do not tighten the bottom support bracket.



15. Install nuts. Use new nuts.



16. Tighten the bolts.



17. Install the heat shield.



18. Lower the car.
