Removing and installing the catalytic converter (Mondeo 2)

            0

Depending on the model of the installed engine, the mounting of the catalytic converter and the procedure for its replacement vary among different models.

16-valve engine (until the end of 1998)

Remove the neutralizer in the following order:

- unscrew the heat shield plate from the inside of the engine compartment above the exhaust manifold (four places);

- unscrew the heat shield plate from the inside of the engine compartment above the exhaust…

- unscrew the four screws (Fig. 308) securing the neutralizer;

- Raise the front of the car;

- remove the protective covering under the front of the car (if installed). To do this, you need to release the clamps and screws;

- disconnect the lambda probe plug and unscrew the sensor from the outlet pipe;

- release the connection between the neutralizer and the pipe from the back side;

- hang both rubber hoses from the left and right sides of the neutralizer and remove it.

The rubber suspensions (Fig. 309) of the neutralizer are made of a special material and must be replaced only with similar ones. Other similar suspensions are not suitable.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Remove carbon deposits on the flange connections. Clean the manifold connection pin screws well and, if possible, lubricate them with heat-resistant grease to make removal easier later.

Always replace manifold connection nuts and sealing ring. Replace also neutralizer connection sealant. Tighten flange nuts to 47 Nm. Attach neutralizer to 47 Nm

- to the manifold connection. The tightening torque of the lambda sensor screws is 42 Nm.

Removal and installation of the neutralizer on these vehicles is simpler. After the vehicle is jacked up, release the connections shown in Fig. 310 and remove the neutralizer.

Installation is carried out in reverse order. Clean the pin screws of the connections well and, if possible, lubricate them with heat-resistant grease to make removal easier later. In the exhaust system, sealant must not be used before the neutralizer, as it may ignite.

V6 Engine

The replacement of the neutralizer is carried out in the same order as described above. If there is an automatic transmission, the catalytic converter is secured on one side with three nuts. When installing, tighten the connections with a torque of 47 N·m.
