Precautions when handling a catalytic converter (Mondeo 2)

            0

Particularly dangerous for the neutralizer is the unburned combustible mixture, which can ignite in a very hot catalyst and thereby increase its temperature to a dangerous level. In addition, fuel accumulates in the neutralizer, and after starting the engine, the ceramic body can be damaged due to detonation combustion. Therefore, when carrying out repair and other work, pay attention to the following:

- if the battery is discharged, the engine is started using an auxiliary cable from an external battery. If the starter is faulty, it is necessary to move, shift or tow the car only for short distances. A running engine starts after just a few meters of movement. If this does not happen, find out the reason, but do not tow the car for a long distance;

- the presence of interruptions in spark formation or incorrect injection indicate malfunctions in the ignition system. The system should be checked immediately;

- if the bearing is damaged, you cannot move with a "dead" cylinder, but if there is no neutralizer, this can be done without problems;

- in hot summer after many weeks of dry weather, do not park the car over dry leaves, hay, etc. - they may catch fire;

- if there is anti-corrosion protection of the bottom, the protection of the neutralizer also becomes better;

- check, usually with the car raised with a jack, whether the heat protection made of metal sheets is damaged or missing.
