Removal and installation of system of release of the fulfilled gases

The service life of the exhaust system depends on the operating conditions of the vehicle. If the car travels mainly for short distances, then the process of deposition of condensate, soot and aggressive acids inside the mufflers of the exhaust system is much more active, the system can quickly rust from the inside. When driving long distances at engine operating temperature, the combustion process improves, thereby reducing the level of toxic substances in the exhaust gas. Other damage to the exhaust system occurs externally as a result of exposure to water or salt, which is sprinkled on the road.

The repair work for a partially corroded exhaust system is briefly described below. Most often, their results are only short-lived. A bandage or putty will help for a longer period, but the nearby metal sheet may also be susceptible to corrosion, so fresh oil stains will soon appear. As already mentioned, the exhaust system, consisting of two or four links, is installed during the production of the car. Therefore, if you need to replace the intermediate muffler, then you need to cut the tube in certain places to insert a new part. Here, during the replacement, problems arise. Pipe connections in all engines and in all car models are different. In addition, parts are located in different places. If you decide to replace the exhaust system yourself, we recommend «sawing» old system after receiving new parts. Docking places of pipes during installation are connected by means of clamps.

The catalytic converter suspension rubber rings are made of a special material and can withstand high temperatures.

Despite the fact that the exhaust system can be easily replaced on your own, it is advisable to first visit a service center and find out how much it will cost to replace the entire system or its individual unit, since the cost of work is most often already included in the cost of parts and their purchase can be more expensive. If the exhaust system still has to be dismantled for other work, it is necessary to perform the following steps, and we immediately note that this description as a whole can be attributed to all vehicles. To remove the system, do the following:

- raise the front of the car, securely fasten it, preferably on a viewing ditch or lifting platform;

- Unscrew the flange of the front exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold;

- release details of system of release from rubber suspended elements and completely remove;

- Unscrew the nuts on the catalytic converter at the flange connection between the front exhaust pipe and the converter and separate these parts. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, while paying attention to the following:

- Clean the exhaust manifold flange well with sandpaper. Lubricate the threads of the bolts with grease;

- first connect all the details loosely. Insert a new gasket between the converter flange and the front exhaust pipe, and between the converter and the rear exhaust pipe. The last operation must not be performed on all models;

- check all rubber suspensions for the possibility of their reuse;

- align the exhaust system under the car and fix it on rubber suspension brackets;

- Connect the exhaust pipe to the manifold and evenly tighten the nuts to a torque of 47 Nm;

- Connect the rear muffler to the front link of the system and loosely install the exhaust clamp;

- re-check the position of the front pipe, if necessary, the catalytic converter and the intermediate muffler and tighten all clamping connections;

- After suspending the rubber rings, check that the parts of the exhaust system are correctly suspended in all of them. Start the engine and listen for noises. During a short trip, you can quickly determine if the system hits somewhere.

Warning: Do not use sealant upstream of the catalytic converter in the exhaust system as it may ignite.
