Removal



1. Place the vehicle over the inspection channel or lift it on a lift.

2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

3. On V6 models, remove the shielded distributor housing, cover and rotor.

4. Unscrew the gear shift knob.

5. Remove (depending on the equipment version) the center console or shelf near the gear shift lever.

6. Remove the outer gearshift lever cover after disconnecting it from the holder, and the inner cover together with the holder after unscrewing the holder frame from the floor tunnel.

7. Disconnect the gear shift lever from the rear of the transmission housing.

8. Raise the car.

9. Disconnect the stabilizer from the side member.

10. On V6 models, remove the heat shield.

11. Disconnect the rubber suspension elements from the brackets that secure the rear part of the exhaust system and secure the entire system in such a way as not to put any strain on the front part of the system.

12. Unscrew the fastening of the middle bearing of the cardan shaft, and also unscrew the fastenings of the cardan shaft to the flange of the main drive shaft near the rear axle.

13. Remove the front part of the propeller shaft from the rear gearbox housing and plug the hole in the rear part of the housing with a suitable plug to prevent oil from leaking out of the gearbox.

14. Using a jack, support the gearbox using wooden blocks.

15. Unscrew the crossmember that mounts the gearbox to the body. It is secured with five bolts - two on each side and one in the center.



16. Remove the spring hook securing the speedometer drive cable and disconnect the cable from the gearbox.

17. Disconnect the electrical wire from the reverse light switch.

18. Remove the starter.

19. Disconnect the clutch cable from the release forks.

20. Unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the intermediate plate.

21. Remove the reaction lever of the engine-gearbox assembly.

22. Disconnect the gearbox from the engine (six bolts) and carefully remove the gearbox from under the vehicle.

Installation



1. Apply a small amount of grease to the input shaft splines.

2. The gearbox is installed in the reverse order of the removal process. After installation, the gearbox oil level should be checked.
