Checking the oil pressure in an automatic transmission

1. Connect an oil pressure gauge, with a female threaded tip of the appropriate diameter, to the gearbox housing.

2. Locate the pressure gauge in the car so that its readings can be seen from the driver's seat.

3. heat up (while the vehicle is moving) oil in the gearbox to normal operating temperature.

4. Check the oil pressure in the gearbox while the engine is idling.

5. If the pressure is too low, then check the oil level, the hydrokinetic transmission, and the oil pump.

6. If the pressure is too high, then check the engine idle speed, the vacuum line between the engine and the gearbox drive, the vacuum regulator, the hydraulic control unit in the gearbox, and the oil pressure during the engine overload test (see subsection 7.3.2.5).
