Checking the oil pressure in an automatic transmission

Checking the oil pressure in an automatic transmission

1. Connect an oil pressure gauge with a female threaded end of the appropriate diameter to the gearbox housing.

2. Place the pressure gauge in the car so that its readings are visible from the driver's seat.

3. Heat (while the vehicle is moving) the oil in the gearbox to normal operating temperature.

4. Check the gearbox oil pressure while the engine is idling.

5. If the pressure is too low, you should check the oil level, hydrokinetic transmission, and oil pump.

6. If the pressure is too high, check the engine idle speed, the vacuum line between the engine and the transmission drive, the vacuum regulator, the hydraulic control unit in the transmission, and the oil pressure during the engine overload test (see subsection 7.3.2.5).
