Electronic control units perform the same functions as relays, but can accept more commands and perform more tasks. They are electronic, not electromechanical.
The main electronic control units are the EEC IV modules (in models with a fuel injection system) and the ABS control module. They are located under the glove compartment on the passenger side and are accessible after removing the trim under the instrument panel.
The serviceability of the unit at home can be determined by replacing it with a known good unit. However, using the trial and error method is too expensive, so if problems arise, it is necessary to consult a competent specialist at the initial stage.
