You will need a flat-blade screwdriver.
Note: Clean the crankcase ventilation system before each oil change.
1. Remove the air filter housing (see "Checking and replacing the air filter element").

2. Remove the ten bolts securing the air filter housing cover…

3. …and remove the lid.

4. Remove the crankcase ventilation filter from the air filter housing groove.

Note: Replace a heavily soiled filter with a new one.

5. Disconnect the hose from the cylinder head cover fitting.
6. Remove the cylinder head cover (see "Replacing the cylinder head cover gasket").
Note: Replace the cylinder head cover gasket with a new one each time the cylinder head cover is removed.
7. Wash the oil deflectors, the inner surface of the cylinder head cover and its pipe with gasoline or kerosene.
8. Install the cylinder head cover and crankcase ventilation hoses in the reverse order of removal.
