Cleaning the crankcase ventilation system

            0

Over time, tar deposits from crankcase gases accumulate in the crankcase ventilation system of the engine, making it difficult to remove these gases into the engine cylinders for combustion. For this reason, the pressure of the gases inside the engine rises and oil leaks through the seals. To prevent this from happening, periodically clean and flush the system.

You will need: flat and Phillips screwdrivers, tools to remove the cylinder head cover.

TIP: Clean the crankcase ventilation system before every oil change.

To clean the crankcase ventilation system of a 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT engine, follow these steps.

1. Remove the decorative engine cover (see Removal and installation of a decorative casing of the engine).

2. Remove the air filter cover..

3….and remove the filter element (refer to Replacing the Air Filter Element).

4. Remove the crankcase ventilation filter from the slot in the air filter housing.

NOTE: Replace a heavily soiled filter with a new one.

5. Remove the crankcase ventilation pipe from the holder on the inlet pipe.

6. Disconnect the tube of the crankcase ventilation system from the connecting hose..

7….and remove the hose.

8. Raise the air filter housing by pulling it up, overcoming the force of the rubber bushings..

9.... and disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from it by squeezing the latch of its fastening.

10. Remove the crankcase ventilation tube.

11. Remove the cylinder head cover (refer to Cylinder Head Cover Gasket Replacement).

GOOD ADVICE: Replace the gasket with a new one every time you remove the cylinder head cover.

12. Wash the oil deflectors, the inner surface of the cylinder head cover and its branch pipe with gasoline or kerosene.

13. Establish a cover of a head of the block of cylinders and hoses of system of ventilation of a crankcase in an order, the return to removal.

To clean the crankcase ventilation system on Duratec-HE 2.0 and 2.3 L engines, follow these steps.

1. Remove the decorative engine cover (see Removal and installation of a decorative casing of the engine).

2. Loosen the clamps of the air supply hoses to the air filter and disconnect them from the nozzles on the air filter cover (refer to Cylinder Head Cover Gasket Replacement).

3. Turn out screws of fastening of a cover of the air filter.

4. Remove the air filter cover..

5….and remove the filter element (refer to Replacing the Air Filter Element).

6. Remove the crankcase ventilation filter from the groove in the air filter housing.

NOTE: Replace a heavily soiled filter with a new one.

7. Remove the crankcase ventilation system tube from the holder.

8. Disconnect the tube of the crankcase ventilation system from the cylinder head cover by squeezing the clamps of its fastening.

9. Raise the air filter housing by pulling it up, overcoming the resistance of the rubber bushings..

10.... and disconnect the crankcase ventilation tube from it by squeezing the latches of its fastening.

11. Remove the crankcase ventilation tube.

12. Remove the cylinder head cover (refer to Cylinder Head Cover Gasket Replacement).

GOOD ADVICE: Replace the gasket with a new one every time you remove the cylinder head cover.

13. Wash the oil deflectors, the inner surface of the cylinder head cover and its branch pipe with gasoline or kerosene.

14. Establish a cover of a head of the block of cylinders and hoses of system of ventilation of a crankcase in an order, the return to removal.
