Checking the transmission oil level (automatic transmission)

            0

CD4E automatic transmissions, like all Mondeo manual transmissions, are provided with a durable oil. However, after extreme use of the car, for example, in heavy duty or driving in mountainous areas, a small oil consumption appears. After such «walks» check the oil level - and subsequently after 45,000 kilometers. To do this, your Mondeo has a corresponding dipstick located in the engine compartment between the engine and gearbox (to the left of the direction of travel).

Please note the following important guidelines before using this probe:

If your Mondeo has been driven with a trailer or in hot weather in the mountains, allow the transmission oil to cool to 60-70°C for about half an hour. This is exactly the temperature of the oil at which you can accurately measure its level.

PROCEDURE
  1. Drive approximately 30 km to heat up the transmission oil as needed, then stop the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Start the engine and shift all positions of the gear lever. At each step, wait for the moment when the gearbox actually shifted.
  3. Now set the lever to position P, set the handbrake and start the engine at idle.
  4. Clean the dipstick cap and pull it out completely.
  5. Clean the dipstick with a lint-free cloth and then insert it into the guide tube as far as it will go.
  6. Pull the dipstick and check the oil level. At oil temperatures of 60–70°С, the level should be in the shaded area of the dipstick. If this is not the case, add the missing volume using a suitable funnel through the dipstick hole. For this procedure, it is better to stop the engine, otherwise the ATF oil may spill out of the funnel back. Difference between labels «MIN» And «MAX» is approximately 0.4 liters.
  7. Check «adjusted» oil level with the engine running.

Measure with engine running: Difference between marks «MIN» And «MAX» is 0.4 l.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

Special considerations when handling the CD4E automatic transmission

After repairing the gearbox, never start the engine if the gearbox is not ventilated - its insides must be dry. If «went on strike» the battery of your automation, it is not so easy to move or drag the car: the hydraulic torque converter does not provide a connection between the engine and the gearbox when the engine is stopped. What to do in this situation: You have a wire on board to connect the starter to the auxiliary battery, so ask another driver for help.

Towing - first set the gear lever to the position «N»

If you need to tow your Mondeo, be sure to set the shift lever to the «N» and tell the driver in front to drive below 50 km/h. Never tow a damaged Mondeo with an automatic transmission in reverse, only in forward. When driving forward, complete this process after a maximum of 50 km, otherwise «entrails» gearboxes can «take offense» on you, they can only work dry, this happens, for example, when the oil level has not yet been corrected after the repair of the gearbox or new oil has been filled in.
