- Start the engine at idle speed.

Driving with a leaky hydraulic clutch system
In a situation where the hydraulic clutch system of your Mondeo "leaks" on the road (leaky master (distributor) clutch cylinders, burst hose, air in the hydraulic system), remember our three tips.
Assuming you have a little patience and a gentle touch with the accelerator pedal and gearshift lever, you can, of course, outsmart your Mondeo's gearbox without engaging the clutch. Starting off without engaging the clutch
Turn off the engine. Set the car to 1st gear, then engage the starter. Your Mondeo moves jerkily, as soon as the engine starts, give it a little gas. If you do not want to change gears while driving, set it to 2nd gear immediately after starting. Shifting to a higher gear without engaging the clutch
Set strictly to 1st gear after shifting to revs above idle speed (around 1000 rpm). Release some gas. Set the gearshift lever slightly "before" 2nd gear. If the gear is stuck, give a little gas, release the gas pedal and carefully engage 2nd gear with the lever. With synchronous engine and gearbox speeds, the gear slips by itself. If you still want to wait a little longer, then give a little gas, thereby the range of gear ratio change without grinding gears "will come into engagement". If unsuccessful, hold off again and try your "luck" again.
All other gears are engaged in a similar manner. This works best at low speeds: 3rd gear at 30 km/h, 4th at 40 km/h and 5th at 50 km/h. Shifting to a lower gear without engaging the clutch
This process occurs best at low engine speeds and revs.
First, take your foot off the gas pedal. Gently apply the gas to increase engine speed slightly. At the same time, set the shift lever "before" a lower gear. When the engine speed is right, set that gear.
Proceed in the same way on the remaining gears. |
