Air filter replacement

            0

Every 32,000 km or every 2 years.

Caution: Never drive a vehicle with the air filter removed. In such a case, excessive engine wear can occur, and backfires can even cause a fire under the hood.

1. The air filter is located in the air cleaner installed in the engine compartment on the left. Release the clips and remove the air cleaner cover (see fig. 24.1, a, b).

2. If necessary, to improve access on models with 4-cylinder engine, you can loosen the fasteners of the air mass meter cover and remove this assembly. On models with a 6-cylinder engine, release the air hose clamp and disconnect it from the air mass meter.

3. Pull out the filter, taking into account which side it is installed and clean the housing (see fig. 24.3). The intake duct and air mass meter must be free of foreign particles.

4. If the maintenance procedure is performed according to the schedule, the filter must be replaced regardless of its condition.

5. On 4-cylinder engine models, the small foam filter located on the right rear corner of the air cleaner should be cleaned whenever you change the air filter (see paragraph 25).

6. If for any reason you are checking the filter, inspect the underside of the filter. If it is oily or damp, replace the filter. If the filter is slightly dusty, it can be used again after cleaning with compressed air from top to bottom. Since the filter is made of paper, it cannot be washed or lubricated. If the filter cannot be cleaned with compressed air, replace it.

Warning: Protect your eyes when working with compressed air!

6. Install the filter in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:
  • A) The filter does not care which side you install it up [usually there is a corresponding marking on the filter].
  • b) The filter and cap must be firmly in place to prevent unfiltered air from entering the engine.
  • V) Secure the cover with all spring clips. Connect cap or hose to air flow sensor.
