Checking wheel nuts

            0

Every 16,000 km or 12 months.

1. Checking the tightness of the wheel nuts is not only relevant for safety reasons (the need for reliable tightening of nuts is obvious). Tightening the nuts is also harmful: if a puncture occurs on the road, and you only have a standard key in the trunk, you simply won’t be able to remove the wheel.

2. Apply the parking brake, chock the wheels and engage 1st gear.

3. Remove the wheel covers using the flat end of the wheel wrench from the tool kit (on certain models, it is necessary to unscrew the fixing bolts with a special wrench).

4. Loosen the first wheel nut using the wheel wrench provided in the standard tool kit. If this fails, unscrew it with a socket head with an extension.

Warning: Do not use homemade tools to loosen nuts. If excessive force is required to unscrew, check that the tool is installed correctly and that its quality is not questionable. Be aware that the tool can slip or fall off - take precautions, at least wear work gloves. Do not jump on the end of a lever to use your mass to loosen a nut - a tool is not designed for this. If you are unable to unscrew the nut, contact a specialist for help.

5. After loosening the nut, unscrew it and check that the nut threads are not rusted or clogged. If necessary, remove dirt and rust from the threads with a wire brush

6. Reinstall the nut with the tapered side toward the wheel. Tighten it with a wheel wrench - only with it, nothing else. Then you can unscrew the nut on the road in case of a tire puncture. If you have a torque wrench, tighten the nut to the correct torque.

7. Repeat these steps for the remaining three nuts, then reinstall the cap.

8. Check up in the same way other wheels of the car.
