Checking and adjusting the angles of the front wheels

Before adjusting the wheel alignment, check the air pressure in the tires, free play in the wheel bearings and install the wheels parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. After replacing suspension parts or after jacking up the vehicle, «to live» suspension so that the wheels are in their normal position. For adjustment, use a bench from Churchill, Bem-Muller, Facom, Sam-Lauravia, etc.

NOTE: Camber and rake angles are not adjustable, except in a vehicle «Escort RS 1600 i «.

Convergence check


Loosen the tie rod lock nuts and the outer collars of the protective covers. By rotating the right and left steering rods, set the convergence or discrepancy indicated above.

Checking the Pitch Angle


In case of deviation from the norm (see tables 4.3 and 4.4) check the tightness of the anti-roll bar mounting brackets.




Checking the camber angle and tilt of the axis of rotation


If the angles do not match, check the deformation of the trunnion and suspension arm, tightening and wear of the suspension ball joint.
