Checking the oil level in a manual transmission

Every 16,000 km or 12 months.


1. Manual transmission does not have a dipstick. To check the oil level, raise the car, place it on supports so. to keep it in a horizontal position.

2. If necessary, to provide access to the transmission housing, remove the lower mudguard from under the engine.

3. The fill/level plug is located on the bottom front of the transmission. Remove the cork (see fig. 11.3. a,b).





4. If the level is correct, the oil should reach the bottom of the hole.

5. If oil needs to be added, use a syringe or a plastic bottle with a tube, (see fig. 11.5).



6. Drink more oil until it starts to flow out of the hole.

7. Screw the plug back into place and tighten it to the required torque. After that, take a short trip and then check for leaks.

8. The need for frequent topping up of oil indicates a leak that needs to be identified and repaired.
