Inspection and replacement of the front hub and bearings

            0

Inspection

1. Front hub bearings are non-adjustable and shipped lubricated (see fig.3.1).

2. To check the wear of the bearings, apply the parking brake, lift the front end and place it on supports.

3. Grab the front wheel from above and below and rock it. Excessive play may indicate worn hub bearings. Do not confuse wear on the bearings with wear on the driveshaft outer pivot or front suspension lower arm ball joint. The wear of the hub bearings is manifested by vibration or uneven movement when the wheel rotates. It can also be determined by the characteristic noise during movement.

Replacement

4. Remove the steering knuckle assembly from the hub (paragraph 2).

5. After that, the hub must be removed from the inner rings of the bearings. The hub can be pressed out or knocked out with a metal pipe of a suitable diameter (see fig. 3.5).

6. The hub will not completely come out of the bearings and use a puller to remove it.

7. Please note that this procedure is for hub removal only. It does not apply to the removal of bearings. Inspect the condition of the lanes and balls to see if they can be reused. However, since it is difficult to remove the hub without damaging the bearings, especially using improvised means, it is recommended to always replace the bearings after removing the hub.

8. Using pliers to extract elastic rings, pull out the inner and outer rings that fix the hub bearings in the steering knuckle (see fig. 3.8).

9. Press out or knock out the bearings with a pipe slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the bearings.

10. Clear a landing surface under the bearing in a rotary fist.

11. Install one of the elastic rings in the outer groove of the steering knuckle.

12. Press or drive a new bearing into the steering knuckle until it stops in the elastic ring using a metal pipe, the diameter of which is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the bearing. Do not press on the bearing inner race.

13. Establish the second elastic ring in an internal flute of a rotary fist.

14. Supporting the inner ring of the bearing on the metal tube, fully press or drive the hub into the bearing.

15. Install the steering knuckle and hub (paragraph 2).
