Bleeding hydraulic steering system

1. If you disconnected the hydraulic steering system pipelines, then after that you need to remove air from the system.

2. The front wheels must be in the straight ahead position. Check the fluid level in the hydraulic reservoir. Add fluid up to the mark if necessary "MAX" or "MAX-COLD". Drink the liquid slowly so that air bubbles do not form. Use only regulated fluid (chapter 1 of the Technical Requirements).

3. Start the engine and bring it to high idle. Check hoses and connections for leaks.

4. Stop the engine and recheck the fluid level. If necessary, add fluid to the mark "MAX" or "MAX-COLD".

5. Restart the engine and let it idle. To remove air from the system, slowly turn the steering wheel from side to side several times. If air still remains in the system (what is manifested by the noise during the operation of the steering), then leave the car in the garage for the night, and the next day repeat the bleeding procedure.

6. If air still remains in the system, then proceed in the manner recommended by Ford and bleed with a vacuum pump. Turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops. Then install a vacuum pump on the reserve tank and create a vacuum of 0.15 bar. Maintain this vacuum for at least five minutes. Then turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and repeat this procedure.

7. Maintain fluid level while pumping. Note that as the temperature rises, the level rises.

8. Finally, stop the engine and return the front wheels to the straight ahead position.
