Thermostat (1.6L Duratec) — Removal and Installation (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.

2. Lower the vehicle.

3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.



4. Disconnect the breather hose from the cylinder head cover.



5. Remove the air filter.



6. Remove the thermostat cover from the thermostat housing.





7. Remove the thermostat from the thermostat housing. Discard the thermostat O-ring as it is no longer needed.

Installation

NOTE: Install a new thermostat O-ring.

Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
