Accessory Drive Belt Idler Pulley (Focus 1)

Removal


All cars

1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For more information, refer to the Accessory Drive Belt chapter in this section.

Cars with 1.4L or 1.6L engine (100 hp)

2. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.

2. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.


Cars with 1.6L (90 hp), 1.8L or 2.0L engine

3. Lower the vehicle.

4. Unscrew the bolt securing the expansion tank of the cooling system.

4. Unscrew the bolt securing the expansion tank of the cooling system.


5. Disconnect the expansion tank of the cooling system and place it aside.

5. Disconnect the expansion tank of the cooling system and place it aside.


6. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir and place it aside.



6. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir and place it aside.

CAUTION: Place a block of wood between the oil pan and the trolley jack.


NOTE: The engine must be raised slightly to remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.


Place a trolley jack and a block of wood under the oil pan and raise the engine enough to take the load off the front engine mount.

8. Remove the accessory drive belt pulley.

8. Remove the accessory drive belt pulley.


Installation


1. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
