The half-axles are used to transmit the drive to the front wheels of the car. Each axle consists of two joints of the steering gear connected by a shaft. The inner joint, located closer to the gearbox, has a tip with a splined surface. The tip is inserted into the hole of the crown wheel of the differential.
The outer joint also has a splined end, which it uses to drive the front wheel hub.
The hinges must be hermetically sealed and protected from dirt and moisture. Therefore, if the rubber covers of the hinges are damaged, they must be replaced.
