Wheel bearing — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Primary Shaft Oil Seal Installation Tool 307-210 (17-041)

Removal

All cars

1. Remove the wheel hub.

Cars with anti-lock braking system

2. Remove the wheel speed sensor ring (brake drum shown).

• Discard the wheel speed sensor ring as it is no longer needed.

All cars

3. Remove the retaining ring.



4. Using a suitable drift, remove the wheel bearing (brake drum shown).

Installation

All cars

1.

CAUTION: Rest the brake drum on the wheel mounting surface, not on the wheel nut studs.

Using the special tool, install the new wheel bearing (brake drum shown).



2. Install the retaining ring.



Cars with anti-lock braking system

CAUTION: Do not strike the wheel speed sensor ring.

CAUTION: Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is clean.

CAUTION: Do not allow any contact between the wheel speed sensor ring and the magnetic surface.

Install a new wheel speed sensor ring.

4. Install the wheel hub. For more information, refer to the Wheel Hub chapter in this section.
