Brake system vacuum pump — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Removal


1. Remove the air intake cover.

1. Remove the air intake cover.


2. Disconnect the air intake hose clamps.

2. Disconnect the air intake hose clamps.


3. Disconnect the intercooler.

3. Disconnect the intercooler.


4. Disconnect the intercooler plug connector.

4. Disconnect the intercooler plug connector.


5. Remove the intercooler.



6. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump.

6. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump.


7. Disconnect the upper and lower oil separator hoses.

7. Disconnect the upper and lower oil separator hoses.


8. Disconnect the glow plug connector.

8. Disconnect the glow plug connector.


9. Disconnect the oil pressure switch.

9. Disconnect the oil pressure switch.


10. Remove the oil separator.


  • 1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
  • 2. Disconnect the oil separator drain hose.
  • 3. Unscrew the bolt.

3. Unscrew the bolt.


11. Disconnect the vacuum pump oil drain hose.

11. Disconnect the vacuum pump oil drain hose.


12. Loosen the vacuum pump mounting bolts by 2.5 turns.

12. Loosen the vacuum pump mounting bolts by 2.5 turns.


13. Select fourth gear.

14. Release the parking brake.

15. Move the vehicle forward, cranking the engine until the vacuum pump is free.



16. Remove the vacuum pump.
  • 1.Loosen the bottom bolt.
  • 2. Unscrew the top bolt.
  • 3.Remove the vacuum pump.

3.Remove the vacuum pump.


17. Remove the vacuum pump seal. Discard the seal as it is no longer needed.

Installation


1. Install a new vacuum pump seal.

2. Install the brake system vacuum pump.

3. Connect the vacuum pump oil drain hose.

4. Connect the oil separator.
  • 1.Install the bolt.
  • 2.Connect the oil separator drain hose.
  • 3. Connect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.

3. Connect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.


5. Connect the oil pressure switch.

5. Connect the oil pressure switch.


6. Connect the glow plug connector.

6. Connect the glow plug connector.


7. Connect the upper and lower oil separator hoses.



7. Connect the upper and lower oil separator hoses.


8. Connect the vacuum hose to the brake system vacuum pump.

8. Connect the vacuum hose to the brake system vacuum pump.


9. Install the intercooler.

9. Install the intercooler.


10. Connect the intercooler plug connector.

10. Connect the intercooler plug connector.


11. Install the air intake hose clamps.
