Removal
All cars
1. Raise the seat to its maximum height.
2. Remove the front seat cushion. For more information, refer to the Front Seat Cushion chapter in this section.

NOTE: The plastic retaining clip may break during removal. Always install a new clip to avoid loose trim.
Remove the outer seat trim panel.
- 1. Disconnect and discard the front mounting clamp.
- 2. Detach the rear locking tab.

All cars
4. Remove the outer seat trim panel.
- 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, disconnect the rear mounting clip.
- 2. Lift up the outer seat trim panel.

Cars produced before 08/2001.
5. Disconnect the side airbag module electrical connector from the rear of the seat (if equipped)
- 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
- 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- 3. Disconnect the mounting clamp.

Cars produced since 08/2001.
6. Disconnect the side airbag module electrical connector from the rear of the seat (if equipped)
- 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
- 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- 3. Disconnect the mounting clamp.

All cars
7. Disconnect the side airbag module wiring harness from the seat frame (if equipped).
- Disconnect the mounting clamps.

Cars produced before 08/2001.
8. Disconnect the seat back heater mat electrical connector from the rear of the seat (if equipped).
- 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
- 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- 3. Disconnect the mounting clamp.

Cars produced since 08/2001.
9. Disconnect the seat back heater mat electrical connector from the rear of the seat (if equipped).
- 1. Using a suitable screwdriver, press the locking tab.
- 2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- 3. Disconnect the mounting clamp.

All cars

NOTE: On vehicles with heated front seats, the seatback heater mat wiring harness runs along the side airbag module wiring harness.
Disconnect the seat back heater mat wiring harness from the seat frame (if equipped).
- Disconnect the mounting clamps.

11. Remove the seat belt buckle and tensioner.

CAUTION: To avoid damaging the seat back tilt adjustment knob, apply even pressure to opposite sides of the knob.
Remove the seat back tilt adjustment knob.

NOTE: The plastic retaining clip may break during removal. Always install a new clip to avoid loose trim.
Remove the seat interior trim panel retaining clip stud and remove the trim panel.

NOTE: 4-door, 5-door and Estate versions shown.
Remove the front seat back.
- 1. Unscrew the mounting nuts.
- 2. Slide the seat back to the side to remove it from the seat base frame.

Installation
1. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
