Removing the intermediate bearing

1 - intermediate bearing housing, 2 - circlip, 3 - bolt, 4 - intermediate bearing, 5 - cross joint, 6 - mounting U-plate

Disassembly

1. Remove cardan shaft.

2. Unclip the safety seal and unscrew the bolt securing the cruciform forks. Remove the mounting U-plate to one side, first marking its position.

3. Disconnect the forks of the cross joint and remove the protective cover from the shaft together with the intermediate bearing housing.

4. Using a universal two-arm puller, remove the bearing from the shaft along with the casing and the sealing ring.

Assembly

1. Fill the space between the bearing and the protective cover with universal grease.

2. Install the bearing together with the casing on the shaft using a sleeve of the appropriate diameter (the red side of the bearing must face the forks of the near cross joint).

3. Put the housing with the protective cover on the bearing mounted on the shaft.

4. Insert the forks of the cross joint.

5. Screw the fork bolt together with the gasket that prevents it from unscrewing into the front shaft and tighten it so that the mounting U-plate can be inserted.

6. Connect both parts of the cardan shaft, setting the forks of the hinges at both ends in the same plane. Failure to do so does not balance the shaft and causes severe vibration.

7. Install the U-plate, tighten the connecting bolt to the required torque and secure it from unscrewing by bending the safety gasket.

8. Install driveshaft.
