Models with 9/94 (with hydraulic clutch)
Air must be removed from the clutch drive in cases where the clutch pedal does not return or returns slowly, and also if the hydraulic system has opened.
Safety instructions: Since the hydraulic clutch uses brake fluid, you must also read the relevant chapter in the "Brake system". Brake fluid is poisonous and destroys paintwork.
Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and top up if necessary, see p. 207.
Caution: The fluid level in the expansion tank must not drop too low; if necessary, always top up the level with new brake fluid.
Raise the front of the car onto jack stands and, if necessary, remove the lower engine compartment casing, see p. 10.
Remove the dust cover from the bottom of the transmission to access the bleed valve on the slave cylinder.
Place a clear PVC hose onto the air bleed valve.
Insert the free end of the hose into a container with brake fluid. The end of the hose should always be below the fluid level to prevent air from being sucked in from the atmosphere during its removal from the hydraulic system. Auto parts stores also have special bottles for removing air. The fluid level in the container should be at least 20 cm above the air removal valve opening.
Carefully unscrew the air bleed valve by about 1 turn. To avoid damaging the valve hexagon, use an open-end wrench to unscrew it.
Ask an assistant to press the clutch pedal until air bubbles stop appearing in the container.
During the operation, the fluid level in the expansion tank must be constantly replenished with new brake fluid.
Caution: When replacing the brake fluid (in accordance with the maintenance chart), bleed the brake fluid until new fluid, which is lighter in colour, starts to emerge.
Tighten the air bleed valve to 15 Nm. Remove the transparent hose and install the dust cover on the gearbox housing.
If removed, install the lower engine compartment cover. Lower the car.
Top up the brake fluid level in the expansion tank to the MAX mark.
Check the functioning of the brake system and clutch.
