Recommended Viscosity Grades for Motor Oils

            0

  • FORD SCORPIO with petrol engine - SAE10W30
  • FORD SCORPIO Diesel - SAE15W40

As the areas of application of adjacent SAE classes overlap, short fluctuations in the ambient temperature may not be taken into account. It is allowed to mix oils of different viscosity grades with each other if it is necessary to replenish the oil level, and the ambient temperature no longer corresponds to the viscosity grade of the oil in the engine.

Engine oil specification

The quality of engine oil is indicated in accordance with the standards of car and oil manufacturers.

The classification of motor oils by American oil manufacturers is given according to the API system (API - American Petroleum Insotut): the designation consists of two letters. The first letter indicates the scope: S (Service) - oil is used in gasoline engines; WITH (Commercial) - oil is used in diesel engines. The second letter indicates the quality (performance group) In alphabet order. According to the API specification, SH oil for gasoline engines and CF oil for diesel engines are of the highest quality.

European oil manufacturers indicate the CCMS specification. At the same time, first of all, they take into account the features of European engine technology. Oils for gasoline engines, depending on the quality, are divided into classes from CCMC-PD1 to CCMC-G5; engine oils for passenger car diesel engines are available in the CCMC-PD1 specification and the CCMC-PD2 premium quality oil specification.

European Commission CCMS descended from ASEA (Association des Constructeurs Europeens de I’Automobile), which establishes other criteria and gradations of quality. Oils for gasoline engines, depending on the quality, according to the ACEA classification, are divided into groups from A1-96 to AZ-96; motor oils for diesel engines are divided into primers from B1-96 to B3-96.

Attention: Engine oils which are designated by the oil manufacturer as oils for diesel engines are not suitable for petrol engines. Engine oils that are suitable for gasoline and diesel engines have both specifications on the oil packaging (e.g. CCMC-G5/PD2 or API SH/CD).
