Fresh air enters the passenger compartment through the air intake grille in front of the windshield and is supplied by the heater fan to the passenger compartment. The air passes through the heater and is directed by a system of cable-controlled flaps to the nozzles of the heating and ventilation system. To heat the air, cold air passes through the heater radiator. The radiator is located in the heater housing and is heated by hot coolant.
A three-speed fan is used to increase the air flow. To operate the fan at different speeds, depending on the switch position, ballast resistors are connected in series with the fan motor.
The resistors are located on the fan board. If any of the resistors fails, the entire board must be replaced. The heater and fan are installed in the passenger compartment under the instrument panel.
