Starting system — general information (Taurus 1 and 2)

The starting system turns the engine to start it. It includes the motor and starter relay, battery switch, connecting wires.

On vehicles with automatic transmissions, there is a neutral switch position in the starter control circuit that prevents the starter from engaging unless the gear selector handle is in the neutral or park position.

On cars with a manual transmission, the electrical circuit does not allow the starter motor to start until the clutch pedal is pressed. The starter should not operate for more than 30 seconds, after which it must be left for at least two minutes to cool down. Overloading the starter can cause it to overheat and, as a result, fail.
