Auto-diagnosis of ignition and fuel injection systems

Regulation of the idle speed and CO content is no longer required when using the EEC IV control unit. The system monitors itself and records faults that occur in a memory device. In the Ford workshop, faults can be called up using a reading device and rectified in a targeted manner. Some kind of malfunction is not always visible, since it may not have a negative impact on the driving characteristics of the car. Therefore, it is recommended to contact the workshop from time to time.

Attention! Disconnecting the battery will erase all information stored in the fault memory, including performance specifications such as idle speed.

After connecting the battery, problems may occur in the operation of the engine (interruptions, the engine may stall on acceleration or run unevenly). After connecting the battery, it is therefore necessary to start the engine and let it idle for about three minutes. After reaching operating temperature (the coolant temperature indicator is in the middle of the scale) give a little gas, the engine should run for the next two minutes at 1200 rpm. During this process, the operating data, such as idle speed, etc., is again recorded in the memory. In conclusion, it is recommended to drive 8 km by car at different speeds to complete the process "learning" and switch to normal engine operation.

Attention! If any work is done on the fuel injection system, it is necessary to observe thorough cleanliness and strictly observe safety precautions when performing any work on the ignition system.
