Auto diagnostics of ignition and fuel injection systems (Mondeo 1)

Adjustment of the idle speed and CO content is no longer necessary when using the EEC IV control unit. The system monitors itself and records any faults that occur in a memory device. At a Ford workshop, faults can be called up using a reading device and can be rectified in a targeted manner. A fault may not always be noticeable, as it may not have a negative effect on the vehicle's performance. It is therefore advisable to visit a workshop from time to time.

Caution: Disconnecting the battery erases all information stored in the fault memory, including set operating characteristics such as idle speed.

After connecting the battery, problems may arise in the engine operation (intermittents, the engine may stall during acceleration or run unevenly). After connecting the battery, therefore, it is necessary to start the engine and let it run for about three minutes at idle. After reaching the operating temperature (the coolant temperature indicator is in the middle of the scale), give it some gas, the engine should run for the next two minutes at 1200 rpm. During this process, the operating characteristics are again recorded in the memory device, such as the number of idle revolutions, etc. Finally, it is recommended to drive the car for 8 km at different speeds to complete the "training" process and switch to the normal engine operating mode.

Attention! When performing any work on the fuel injection system, it is necessary to maintain thorough cleanliness, strictly observe safety precautions when performing any work on the ignition system.
