Engine oil change

            0

The following tool is required to change the engine oil:
  • Car pit or hydraulic repair jack with stands.
  • Special tool for unscrewing the oil filter (oil filter pliers, strap wrench or Hazet 2172 tool).
  • Wrench attachment for unscrewing the oil drain screw plug, as well as a vessel containing at least 5 liters of oil (if the oil is not being sucked out).

The following spare parts are required:
  • If the oil is not being sucked out: aluminum or copper O-ring for the drain plug screw (sometimes comes with an oil filter).
  • Oil filter cartridge.

Attention! For gasoline engines with automatic transmission, use only the EFL-106 oil filter. The standard EFL-2 filter can be damaged by the drive shaft.

Filling capacity of engine oil 4.5 liters. Use only approved engine oil for FORD, see point 2.

Oil change quantity: for 4-cylinder petrol engine: 4.25 l; for diesel engine: 4.5 l.

The difference in the amount of oil between the MIN and MAX marks on the oil level indicator is, depending on the type of engine, from 0.5 l to 1 l.

Oil in a gasoline engine is changed every 15,000 km, and in a diesel engine - every 10,000 km. If the car is used a little, then changing the engine oil once a year is sufficient. At the same time, the filter cartridge is replaced.

Under severe operating conditions, such as driving on short distances, frequent cold starts and dusty highways, the engine oil and filter cartridge should be changed more frequently. Engine oil is also sucked out using a probe (at a gas station) through the level indicator tube. True, then you need to buy new oil.

Attention! Take old oil, oil filter and rags soaked with engine oil to a special collection point for old engine oil. Never dispose of old oil and oil filter in a landfill or waste bin. Otherwise, pollution of the environment and groundwater is possible.

Descent of engine oil

Bring the engine up to operating temperature (60°C engine oil), for this you need to drive about 10 km.

Place the car horizontally on stands.

Remove the oil filler cap from the top of the engine.

Diesel engine: unscrew the engine bottom cover and remove.

Place a container under the oil pan to drain the old oil.

Remove the drain plug on the side of the oil pan and completely drain the old oil.

Attention! If there is a large amount of metal chips and abrasion products in the engine oil, then this is a sign of wear due to scuffing, for example, a crankshaft, or damage to the connecting rod bearing. After repairing the engine, clean the oil channels and oil hoses.

Oil filter replacement

Unscrew the oil filter -1- from the flange -2-. The oil filter is located on the rear of the engine, on top of the oil pan, near the V-belt mechanism. To unscrew the oil filter, special tools are available, such as HAZET 2172, or a band wrench. You can also insert a sharp screwdriver into the oil filter from the side, while, however, oil may pour out - substitute the vessel.

Wipe the place where the oil filter is attached to the engine block with a rag. If necessary, remove the sealing gasket remaining there.

Lightly lubricate the rubber seal with engine oil, follow the instructions for the oil filter.

Tighten the oil filter only by hand. When the filter seal is in contact with the motor block, tighten the filter a further 1/2 turn at least.

Refilling engine oil

Screw in the screw plug with a new O-ring and tighten firmly, but not too tight. Tightening torque: 25 Nm.

Depending on the model, fill in the prescribed amount of new oil through the cylinder head cover nozzle. Screw on the cover.

Start the engine and rotate at a higher speed (about 2500/min), until the oil control lamp goes out (after about 5 sec). Stop the engine.

After a pause of 5 minutes, check the oil level with a dipstick.

After a test drive, check the tightness of the drain plug and oil filter, tighten carefully if necessary.

Stop the engine warmed up to operating temperature and check the oil level again after 2 minutes, correct if necessary.

To better control engine performance, always use the same type and brand of oil whenever possible when changing the oil. To do this, it is advisable to attach a plate to the engine at each oil change, which indicates the brand and viscosity of the oil.

Variable use of different types of oil is unfavorable. If possible, do not mix engine oils of the same type but different brands. Engine oils of the same type and brand, but of different viscosities, can be topped up if necessary during the off-season.
