Pic. 5.49. The cylinder head of the Duratorq-TDCi engine with a volume of 2.2 liters: 1 - fuel injector; 2 – the top part of a head of the block of cylinders; 3 – a camshaft of final valves; 4 - roller pusher; 5 – cracker of a valve spring; 6 - the upper plate of the valve spring; 7 - valve springs; 8 - the lower plate of the valve spring; 9 - the lower part of the cylinder head; 10 - gasket; 11 - exhaust valves; 12 - inlet valves; 13 - glow plug; 14 – bolts of fastening of a head of the block of cylinders (10 pieces.); 15 - intake camshaft; 16 – an epiploon of a final camshaft

You will need: All the tools needed to remove the cylinder head cover and timing belt.

Camshafts are replaced in the following cases: – The pressure in the engine lubrication system has dropped; - valve knock at normal clearances in the valve drive mechanism. Caused by increased wear of the camshaft cams due to the use of low-quality engine oil or damage to the oil filter.

1. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

2. Remove the intake pipe.

3. Remove the cylinder head cover (refer to 2.2L Duratorq-tdci Cylinder Head Cover Seals Replacement).

4. Loosen the chain tension and remove the chain.

5. Remove camshafts.

6. Remove seals 16 (see fig. 5.49) camshafts and, if necessary, replace the gasket 10.

NOTE: Replace the camshaft seals with new ones each time they are removed.
