2.2L Duratorq-tdci Cylinder Head Cover Seal Replacement

You will need: All the tools needed to remove the timing belt.

The cylinder head cover consists of two parts, upper and lower. If oil leakage from under the bottom of the cylinder head cover cannot be eliminated by tightening the cover bolts, replace its seal. Sealant FORD WSE-M4G323-A4 is used as a seal, as there is no gasket.

1. Reduce the pressure in the supply system (see Reducing the pressure in the engine supply system).

2. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the storage battery.

3. Remove the air filter and air sleeves (refer to Removing and installing the air filter and intake silencer).

4. Remove the timing belt (refer to Duratorq-tdci 2.2L Timing Belt Replacement).

5. Remove a distributive collector of system of injection of fuel.

6. Remove the fuel injectors.

7. Remove the inlet pipe.

8. Remove the top part of a cover of a head of the block of cylinders, having turned out nine bolts of fastening.

NOTE: Gaskets are installed between the top and bottom of the cylinder head cover (pic. 5.54). Replace if necessary.



9. Loosen the twenty-four bolts securing the lower part of the cylinder head cover in the order shown in fig. 5.55, and then finally turn out the mounting bolts.

10. Clean the grooves of the lower part of the cylinder head cover and the mating surface of the block head from the remnants of the old seal.

11. Apply sealant to the surface (FORD WSE-M4G323-A4 or equivalent) roller with a diameter of 3 mm, and the line for applying the sealant-gasket should run from the inside of the mounting holes.

12. No later than 10 minutes after applying the sealant, install the lower part of the cylinder head cover.

13. Bolts of fastening of a cover tighten the moment of an inhaling of 11 Nm (1.1 kgf·m) in the reverse order shown in Fig. 5.55.

14. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE: Bolts of fastening of the top part of a cover of a head of the block of cylinders tighten the moment 9 Nm (0.9 kgf·m).


15. Adjust the tension of the timing belt (see 2.2L Duratorq-tdci Timing Belt Replacement).
