- screw the studs back in (if removed). This time, grab the top of the two nuts with a wrench and tighten the studs. The threads in the cylinder head can be lubricated with a protective agent;
- clean the valves, valve seats, passages and sealing surfaces. Clean the inside surfaces of the valve guides by pulling a piece of rag soaked in gasoline through the guides;
- install the valve stem seal rings on the valves. The end of the valve should be wrapped in tin foil paper (for example, from a pack of cigarettes). Carefully slide the seal ring along the valve guide sleeve. When pressing on the seal rings, the valves should rest against the cylinder head on the other side;
- insert the valves into the corresponding channels;

- Put on the valve springs and install the upper spring plates on them. Compress the valve springs with the tool shown in Fig. 73 or a similar valve puller so that the end of the rod protrudes from the spring plate. Insert both valve crackers using needle-nose pliers and remove the valve puller. Check whether the valve stems are seated properly. To check, give a sharp blow with a plastic hammer to the ends of the valve stems. Incorrectly installed crackers will pop out. For safety, place a rag on top;
- lubricate hydraulic or plate tappets (since May 1998) with hypoid gear oil and insert them into the corresponding holes. Push the tappets in completely. New tappets can be inserted in any direction;
- Reinstall all parts removed from the cylinder head. At this point, you can only leave those parts that should be installed only after the cylinder head has been installed.
